THE WOMAN WHO RAN
2020 Korea 77 minutes
Drama NR
In Korean with English subtitles
Men are mostly, amusingly sidelined in Hong Sangsoo’s recent delight, which is anchored by the director’s regular collaborator—and real-life partner—Kim Minhee as the peripatetic Gamhee. Divided into three casually threaded yet distinct sections, the film follows Gamhee as she travels without her husband for the first time in years, visiting a succession of friends: two on purpose, one by chance. As usual, Hong allows the most minimal interactions to carry surprising weight, and uses subtle and sly narrative repetition to evoke a world of circular motion. The Woman Who Ran also features one of Hong’s most expert comic setpieces, a neighborly argument about stray cats that gets to the heart of the filmmaker’s lovingly crafted world of thwarted connections and everyday dysfunction.
With characteristic humor and grace, Hong takes a simple premise and spins a web of interconnecting philosophies and coincidences. THE WOMAN WHO RAN is a subtle, powerful look at dramas small and large faced by women everywhere.

“Elegant, dryly funny and quietly moving.” -Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
“Working with characteristic wit and sly structural repetitions, [Hong] brings this deft, unassuming story to a startlingly emotional place." -Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times “A bittersweet rumination on female friendships, beautifully anchored by [Hong’s] regular muse Kim Min-hee, and featuring a feline cameo for the ages." -Guy Lodge, The Guardian “The best film of the year.” -James Quandt, ArtForum |

THE LOST LEONARDO
2021 Denmark/France 1 hr 30 minutes
Drama PG-13
In English and French with English subtitles
THE LOST LEONARDO tells the inside story behind the Salvator Mundi, the most expensive painting ever sold at $450 million, claimed to be a long-lost masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci. From the moment it is purchased from a shady New Orleans auction house, and its buyers discover masterful brushstrokes beneath its cheap restoration, the fate of the Salvator Mundi is driven by an insatiable quest for fame, money and power. But as its price soars, so do questions about its authenticity. Is this multi-million dollar painting actually by Leonardo -- or do certain power players simply want it to be? Unravelling the hidden agendas of the world's richest men and most powerful art institutions, THE LOST LEONARDO reveals how vested interests became all-important, and the truth secondary.

Los Hermanos/The Brothers
2020 USA 1hr 24min
Documentary NR
In English and Spanish with English Subtitles
Two Cuban-born brothers, both virtuoso musicians – Aldo and Ilmar López-Gavilán – live on opposite sides of the geopolitical chasm that separates the U.S. and Cuba. But although they lead very different existences, the brothers have an instinctual connection.
Following their parallel lives in New York and Havana, Los Hermanos / The Brothers offers an amazingly heartfelt – though often startling – view of estranged nations through the lens of music and family. In capturing their momentous reunion and electrifying first performances together, the film shows how family bonds can transcend politics.
Featuring an electrifying, genre-bending score composed by Aldo and performed with his brother, Ilmar, and with guest appearances by maestro Joshua Bell and the Harlem Quartet.

"This endearing documentary is an Oscar-caliber film for the family and one not to be missed!"
- Jeffrey Lyons, WCBS News Radio "A remarkable film about a family ensnared in geopolitics and two brothers who lead very different lives and yet never lose their instinctual connection." - Allen Johnson, S. F. Chronicle "Six months without live music will be reason enough to see these two gifted musicians reunite across borders to perform publicly for the first time. The film offers a bright take on the endurance of family despite the policies of the day." - WBUR, Boston Public Radio |
